Jesuit European Social Centre

The Jesuit European Social Centre (JESC) engages with the EU institutions and with ecclesial institutions, cultivating and propagating relationships, while developing initiatives on a variety of themes. JESC seeks to operate in concert with other Jesuit works, whilst working with the poor and marginalised.

Relational Peace Advocacy Network

In 2006, a pilot project named the “Relational Peace Advocacy Network” was launched as a joint initiative between the ‘Jesuit European Social Centre’ and the ‘Centre d'Etudes Pour l'Action Sociale’ (CEPAS – based in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo). CEPAS is the U.S. Jesuit Conference’s Office for International Ministries. This project focusses specifically on improving governance of the mining sector in the Democratic Republic of Congo.  Since 2006 a lot of expertise, instruments and contacts have been developed with companies, academics and politicians.

Adopt legislation for mandatory supply chain due diligence

Targeted Institutions:
European Commission, European Parliament, Council of the EU

The Jesuit European Social Centre calls on the EU to adopt mandatory legislation meeting international standards that would require European business entities to conduct supply chain due diligence in order to ensure that they do not contribute to conflict financing or human rights abuses in the production and trade in natural resources.
